India's DoT Partners with Global Leaders to Drive 6G Technology Development

Under the ambit of the Bharat 6G Vision, the DoT is actively evaluating 470 proposals focused on accelerating research in 6G technologies.

India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT), under the Ministry of Communications, continues to bolster its telecom diplomacy by establishing strategic international partnerships aimed at enhancing the global connectivity landscape and positioning India as a leader in digital innovation and infrastructure.

In a significant move towards shaping the future of global communication, the Bharat 6G Alliance has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two prominent entities: the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G IA) and the 6G Flagship program at Oulu University. This development follows a previously concluded MoU with the NextG Alliance of the USA. These partnerships with 6G IA and Oulu University are pivotal in advancing secure and trusted telecommunication technologies, including resilient supply chains.

Under the ambit of the Bharat 6G Vision, the DoT is actively evaluating 470 proposals focused on accelerating research in 6G technologies.

These strategic alliances are crucial steps towards realizing India's vision of leveraging advanced telecommunications to empower society and contribute significantly to the global 6G ecosystem.

The MoUs will facilitate several key opportunities for India, including:

• Facilitating collaboration between EU and Indian R&D companies, academia, and research institutions.
• Aligning efforts in research and development concerning 6G and related technologies.
• Promoting joint research initiatives and conducting pilots for 6G technologies and use cases.
• Collaborating on the development of 6G technologies and contributing to global standardization efforts.

India's telecom diplomacy efforts have successfully attracted new business ventures, forged partnerships with global leaders, nurtured domestic startups, and showcased India's commitment to driving innovation and securing a leadership position in the global telecommunications landscape.

The Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) stands as a collaborative initiative involving Indian industry, academia, national research institutions, and standards organizations. Aligned with the Bharat 6G Mission, its goal is to design, develop, and deploy technologies that offer intelligent and secure solutions, enhancing the quality of life for citizens in India and worldwide.

The 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) represents the voice of European industry and research in next-generation networks and services. It plays a pivotal role in strategic areas such as standardization, spectrum allocation, R&D projects, technology development, collaboration with vertical industries, and international cooperation.

The 6G Flagship program, funded by the University of Oulu and the Research Council of Finland, leads global research initiatives in 6G technology. It aims to develop critical components, establish comprehensive 6G Test Centers, and drive societal digitization through groundbreaking research and innovation by the 2030s.
