TRAI Initiates Consultation on New Telecom Service Authorization Framework

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a consultation process to establish a new framework for telecom service authorizations under the newly introduced Telecommunication Act of 2023. This act mandates that any individual or entity wishing to provide telecommunication services must secure an authorization from the government, adhering to specific terms, conditions, and fees.

This consultation follows a reference from the Department of Telecom, which sought TRAI’s recommendations on June 21 regarding terms, conditions, and fees for these authorizations. The reference specifically pertains to providing public and non-public telecom services per the new act’s provisions.

TRAI has now published a consultation paper titled 'Framework for the Service Authorizations to be Granted Under the Telecommunications Act, 2023' on its official website. Stakeholders are invited to submit their comments by August 1, with counter comments due by August 8.
