Massive Data Breach Hits AT&T Customers in 2022

A significant security breach in 2022 affected nearly all of AT&T's cellular customers and those using its wireless network through mobile virtual network operators. The compromised data includes records of calls and texts between May and October 2022, and January 2023. The company has launched an investigation and involved cybersecurity experts to assess the situation. Law enforcement is also involved, and at least one suspect has been apprehended.

In an alarming security breach disclosed in 2022, nearly all of AT&T's cellular customers, including those served by mobile virtual network operators, were affected. Compromised data includes call and text records from May 1 to October 31, 2022, and a small subset from January 2, 2023.

AT&T confirmed that the data primarily consists of telephone numbers involved in the interactions, excluding content of calls, personal details, or precise timestamps. However, the possibility of identifying individuals using publicly available tools remains.

The telecom giant has initiated a full investigation and engaged top cybersecurity experts to understand the breach. Law enforcement is also on the case, with at least one arrest made so far.
