India-Mauritius Space Cooperation: New Era of Data Sharing

Expanding the horizons of India-Mauritius space cooperation, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth announced the inception of data sharing on Mauritian territory. This collaboration focuses on joint satellite development, renewable energy initiatives, and MoUs covering various sectors, promising enhanced usage of space technology and sustainable energy solutions.

In a landmark move to bolster India-Mauritius relations, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth announced a new era of space cooperation, emphasizing data sharing on Mauritian territory. His remarks came during a joint media event with visiting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday.

Highlighting the ongoing collaborative efforts, Jugnauth revealed plans for the joint development of a satellite that will provide multispectral imagery and precise data for land and sea monitoring. This was part of a memorandum of understanding between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC).

The prime minister emphasized that the partnership would lead to the establishment of an India-Mauritius space portal offering value-added services and promoting the use of space technology among various stakeholders. He also reiterated Mauritius's commitment to renewable energy goals, seeking India's support for achieving these objectives.
