Pound Rises as British Inflation Beats Expectations in June
The British pound made slight gains on Wednesday following the release of data indicating higher-than-expected headline and services inflation for June. Headline inflation remained at 2.0% year-on-year, surpassing analysts' expectations. Services inflation also exceeded forecasts, amplifying the pound's value against both the dollar and the euro.

The British pound saw a modest increase on Wednesday after newly released data revealed that both headline and services inflation for June surpassed market expectations. The official data indicated that headline inflation sustained at 2.0% year-on-year, slightly above the 1.9% predicted by analysts surveyed by Reuters.
Services inflation, a closely monitored metric, stood at 5.7% year-on-year, above the anticipated 5.6%. As a result, the pound rose, reaching as high as $1.29895, and was last reported up by 0.08% against the dollar, settling at $1.2981.
The pound also gained ground against the euro, with the European currency dipping slightly to 83.99 pence.
