BSNL’s 4G Push Heralds National Pride in Indigenous Technology: Scindia

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the national pride in BSNL's efforts to develop an indigenous 4G stack instead of adopting existing technologies. While no specific timeline for the 4G launch was given, a project management unit will set daily targets, monitored by Scindia himself. MTNL operations will transfer to BSNL, with asset monetization ensuring financial stability.

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stressed the significance of national pride in BSNL's development of an indigenous 4G stack. Unlike other telecom companies, BSNL is taking the challenging route of innovating its own technology rather than adopting existing solutions. Scindia highlighted India's ambition to become a product supplier, aligning with the Prime Minister's vision.

Although Scindia did not provide a specific timeline for the commercial launch of BSNL's 4G services, he mentioned the formation of a project management unit (PMU) that will establish daily targets for this initiative. Scindia and the telecom secretary will closely monitor these targets to ensure timely progress, with results expected 'at the earliest.'

The minister revealed that MTNL’s daily operations would be transferred to BSNL. Additionally, he assured that the monetization of MTNL’s assets would address its liabilities, backed by Sovereign Guarantee Bonds and the full support of the Government of India to prevent any defaults.
