Bengaluru to Get Advanced Doppler Weather Radar for Accurate Forecasting

Bengaluru is set to receive a C-band Doppler Weather Radar to enhance weather forecasting, as confirmed by Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje. The radar, operational by year-end, will significantly improve weather prediction accuracy and disaster preparedness, addressing a long-standing gap in Karnataka's meteorological infrastructure.

Bengaluru will soon benefit from a C-band Doppler Weather Radar to refine weather forecasting, as announced by Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje. The radar, expected to be operational by year-end, marks a significant upgrade in the city’s meteorological capabilities.

Karandlaje shared the news via X, citing approval from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) following her request. Union Minister Jitendra Singh, in charge of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, confirmed the installation with an operational range of 250 km. The selected site has been communicated to the state government.

This initiative addresses a gap noted in a previous report, which highlighted Karnataka's reliance on neighboring states' radars. With this installation, weather prediction accuracy and disaster preparedness in Bengaluru and surrounding regions are expected to improve significantly.
