European regulators have launched an array of investigations and enforcement actions against major technology companies in recent years. This aggressive stance reflects a broader effort to impose stricter controls and maintain fair competition in the tech industry.

On July 11, the European Union announced that Apple would open its tap-and-go mobile payments system to rivals, following an antitrust investigation. Apple was fined 1.84 billion euros ($1.97 billion) in March after a complaint from Spotify. Meanwhile, EU regulators are probing Microsoft's business practices, including the bundling of its Teams app with Office and its security software conduct.

Meta faces charges for failing to comply with the Digital Markets Act, alongside investigations into Facebook and Instagram’s adherence to child safety rules. Google is under scrutiny for potential breaches of the DMA and has been fined 2.42 billion euros ($2.60 billion) for antitrust violations. Overall, 22 services by companies including Apple, Amazon, and TikTok were designated as 'gatekeepers' in September 2023, with a six-month deadline to comply with new regulations. Other significant actions have been taken in Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain, targeting Amazon, Microsoft, Nvidia, and more.
