Nasdaq Futures Rally Amid AMD's Bullish Forecast, Investor Focus Shifts to Fed Decision
Nasdaq futures rose after Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced an optimistic forecast for its AI chip sales in 2024, causing a surge in semiconductor stocks. While Microsoft faltered, the overall market sentiment remains focused on the Federal Reserve's upcoming rate decision amid shifting investor interests.
Nasdaq futures saw a rise on Wednesday following an upbeat forecast from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which boosted chip stocks, even as Microsoft showed weakness. Simultaneously, investors are tuning into the Federal Reserve’s upcoming rate decision with keen interest.
AMD reported an 8.3% rise in premarket trading after lifting its 2024 AI chip sales forecast. This drove other semiconductor stocks higher, with Nvidia up 6.5%, Intel up 2.3%, and Broadcom up 6.4%. “Although AMD is far from dethroning Nvidia on AI chips, its growing demand for AI processors boosted sales to data centers,” said Derren Nathan, head of equity research at Hargreaves Lansdown.
As of 7:15 a.m. ET, Dow e-minis were up 31 points, or 0.08%, S&P 500 e-minis were up 52 points, or 0.95%, and Nasdaq 100 e-minis rose 295.5 points, or 1.56%. Despite recent declines in the Nasdaq and S&P 500, sectors like the Dow show stronger performance. Eyes are now on the Fed's commentary on interest rates and possible rate cuts by September, which could influence further market movements.
