HAL Vows to Accelerate Jet Deliveries Amid IAF's Urgent Needs

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has promised to speed up fighter jet deliveries to India's Air Force following delays attributed to engine shortages from General Electric. Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh expressed dissatisfaction with HAL's pace, highlighting the urgency given geopolitical tensions and squadron shortages.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has committed to expediting its fighter jet deliveries to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in light of existing delays, attributed to engine supply issues from General Electric (GE). The assurance came during a press conference following the IAF chief's criticism of the slow pace of aircraft availability.

HAL Chairman D.K. Sunil acknowledged the IAF's concerns, emphasizing the company's readiness to proceed once the necessary engines are supplied by GE. The Indian Air Force operates below its target strength with only 31 active squadrons, a concern exacerbated by regional tensions with China and Pakistan.

The IAF has ordered 83 Mk-1A light combat aircraft from HAL, with plans to acquire an additional 97, though delays have persisted. Meanwhile, Russia has offered to produce its Sukhoi Su-57 in India, potentially augmenting the IAF's capabilities amidst these challenges.
