Uttar Pradesh Allocates Land for First Chip Production Unit

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken decisive action by reallocating around 48 acres of land for the HCL-Foxconn semiconductor plant. This strategic decision is aimed at reducing infrastructure complications and procedural delays, sources revealed on Monday.

Initial plans saw the land set aside in Sector 10 by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) for Vama Sundari, a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn. However, HCL's concerns regarding potential delays in the ongoing land acquisition and infrastructure development prompted the request for an alternate location.

YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh confirmed the reassignment of the land to Sector 28, reducing the allocation to 48 acres. This plant will be the first of its kind in Uttar Pradesh, focusing on outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) services for display driver integrated circuits. As the direction forward is set, all parties remain quiet on immediate commentary.
