In a bold move on Monday, Senator Maggie Hassan urged SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to take definitive action against criminal networks in Southeast Asia that are reportedly exploiting Starlink satellite internet services. These networks are involved in large-scale fraud operations targeting American citizens.
Recent reports have highlighted that these transnational organizations are using Starlink to carry out their fraudulent activities across 'scam compounds' located in countries like Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. The groups have allegedly swindled billions from Americans, prompting Hassan's urgent call to action.
Despite existing rules empowering SpaceX to terminate access for fraudulent practices, Starlink's services have reportedly continued to be utilized by these organizations. Hassan emphasized the need for SpaceX to strengthen its enforcement measures to protect American citizens from further fraud.
