The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) is urging the government to address regulatory and operational challenges within India's burgeoning battery recycling industry. This comes amid significant policy incentives, technological advancements, and a projected market growth from USD 554.4 million in 2024 to USD 1,304.1 million by 2033.

IESA President Debmalya Sen highlights the importance of government-defined roles under the Battery Waste Management Rules, emphasizing the recognition of remanufacturers and the necessity of 'Eco-Mark' certifications for recyclable battery designs. The IESA's recommendations aim to ensure accountability and foster innovation, addressing current compliance challenges and unlocking future growth opportunities.

With new government incentives, including a Rs 1,500 crore scheme for e-waste and battery recyclers, the industry faces complexities such as feedstock shortages and stricter regulations. Despite these hurdles, IESA remains optimistic about the industry's long-term potential, contingent on ongoing technological and policy developments.
