In a pivotal discussion at the 9th AI Leadership Meet, Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, urged the tech industry to transition from mere deployment excitement to responsible AI stewardship. Patel stressed that AI's future depends on embedding safety, fairness, and transparency as fundamental principles. He underscored the necessity of open-source technology to prevent vendor lock-in and ensure AI benefits the greater good, rather than just individual businesses.
He called for collaborative governance, urging industry and regulators to work together in validating safety standards. The forthcoming India AI-Impact Summit 2026, hosted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, aims to address these vital issues.
