Europe's Push for New Age Weight-Loss Meds

Emer Cooke, head of the European Medicines Agency, announced that the EU regulatory review of a new generation of weight-loss pills is expected to conclude this summer. Novo Nordisk from Denmark and U.S.-based Eli Lilly have both launched these innovative pills recently in the United States.

Emer Cooke, who leads the European Medicines Agency, confirmed on Wednesday that the regulatory review for the first batch of advanced weight-loss medications in the EU is nearing completion.

Cooke made the announcement during the Reuters Pharma Europe 2026 conference in Barcelona, noting that the review's conclusion is imminent.

Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, along with American competitor Eli Lilly, have both recently introduced these new weight-loss pills in the U.S. market.
