In a move to enhance disaster management in India, Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the cutting-edge Cell Broadcast Alert System on Saturday. This initiative aims to alert citizens about emergencies efficiently and promptly.

The Department of Telecom had pre-warned the public of the trial run of this service on April 29 through a test message, urging them not to panic. This newly developed system sends critical disaster alerts to mobile phones, using indigenous technology.

Built under the guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority and C-DOT, the alert system now covers all 36 Indian States and Union Territories, delivering real-time alerts using the Common Alerting Protocol approved by the International Telecommunication Union.
