The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has unveiled an ambitious plan to inject USD 70 billion into energy and digital infrastructure across Asia and the Pacific by 2035. This initiative aims to significantly enhance cross-border connectivity by improving access to electricity and broadband, which are seen as pivotal to the region's development.
Among the key projects are the Pan-Asia Power Grid Initiative and the Asia-Pacific Digital Highway, collectively requiring investments of USD 50 billion and USD 20 billion respectively. These projects aim to integrate renewable energy solutions, modernize grids, expand broadband reach, reduce costs, and stimulate job creation.
ADB President Masato Kanda emphasized the importance of the initiatives at the ADB's 59th annual meeting, highlighting that they will enhance the region's competitiveness and connectivity. The bank plans to fund nearly half of these projects through its resources, with additional financing secured via partnerships with public and private stakeholders.
