Mob Fury in Odisha: Van Set Ablaze Over Suspected Cattle Smuggling

A mob, incensed by suspected cattle smuggling, set a van on fire in Odisha's Balasore district, police reported. The incident unfolded at the Bhatatira railway station level crossing within the Sabarang police jurisdiction.
The van, allegedly carrying several cattle in distressing conditions, was intercepted by the crowd. In a flash of anger, they rescued six cattle before setting the vehicle ablaze. The driver managed to flee the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Local fire services quickly extinguished the blaze, and soon after, Sabarang police launched an investigation. Officer Santanu Jena confirmed a case has been registered as they work to trace the driver and those responsible for the incident.
