Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced on Tuesday that the Ministry of Heavy Industries has approved proposals worth Rs 50,386 crore to enhance electric vehicle charging infrastructure across various Indian states. This initiative, which includes Rs 1,232.6 crore for Karnataka, is aimed at making India's automotive sector competitive globally.

The approved proposals aim to establish 4,874 EV chargers across various states and central public sector undertakings (CPSUs). The first phase launches with Rs 2,000 crore, as the Ministry plans further expansions in collaboration with states, which are actively setting up EV charging stations.

Kumaraswamy underscored several schemes accelerating the shift toward clean electric mobility in India, notably through the PM E-Drive scheme and PLI schemes for battery storage and auto components. Bengaluru is highlighted as a leading hub in this transition, with initiatives like the National Unified EV Charging App promising to streamline user access to charging networks nationwide.
