Vietnam renew its commitment to supply rice to Philippines

After the meeting both the countries agreed on the point that Vietnam will maintain its supply of rice in the Philippines and it will supply good quality of rice at a low price.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the President of Philippines Rodrigo Duterte held a bilateral meeting alongside the 32nd ASEAN Summit in Singapore on Friday. In the meeting Vietnam has renewed its commitment to supply rice to the Philippines, the country is seeking to replenish its rice buffer stock.

Vietnam is the largest rice supplier and they also supply quality of rice in the Philippines. After the meeting both the countries agreed on the point that Vietnam will maintain its supply of rice in the Philippines and it will supply good quality of rice at a low price.

Duterte's meeting with Nguyen came after reports that a bid conducted by the National Food Authority for the government to government importation of 250,000 metric tons of rice has failed.

The government of Philippines has said that they are in need of at least 250,000 metric tons in fresh imports of staples this year after the state grain agency announced that state rice stock is very low due to multiple typhoons destroyed the agricultural area at the end of 2017.

In the meeting along with agreement on rice supply, both the leaders also talked about strengthening their cooperation and security, along with the problem of illegal fishing in both the Philippines and Vietnamese waters.
