Google Doodle celebrating India Independence Day 2018

India celebrates Independence Day every year on 15 August and the day is observed as a National holiday in all Indian states and union territories.

Google Doodle is celebrating today 72nd Independence Day of India with a colorful doodle depicting India as the land of strength, beauty, and power. The doodle features India's national bird 'Peacock' at the center, as a symbol of beauty, an elephant at the left end, as a symbol of strength and a Tiger at the right end, symbolizing power.

India celebrates Independence Day every year on 15 August and the day is observed as a National holiday in all Indian states and union territories. It was on this day, in 1947, that India gained independence from the British rule.

The Prime Minister of India, on 15 August, hoists the Indian flag on the ramparts of the historical site Red Fort in Delhi and pays homage to all the freedom fighters. Twenty-one gunshots are fired in honor of the solemn occasion. The day is observed throughout India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, and cultural events.
