A road ambush in the Democratic Republic of Congo that killed an Italian ambassador, his bodyguard and driver, also injured a number of other people in the convoy, the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday. It gave no further details about those injured.
"WFP will work with national authorities to determine the details behind the attack, which occurred on a road that had previously been cleared for travel without security escorts," the Rome-based food relief agency said in a statement. "The delegation was traveling from Goma to visit a WFP school feeding programme in Rutshuru when the incident took place," it added.
