Jeera prices fell 0.80 percent to Rs 19,840 per quintal in the futures trade Monday as speculators trimmed positions to book profits at the prevailing levels amid lower demand.

Furthermore, ample stocks following higher supplies from the producing regions, too, fuelled the downtrend.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in October fell Rs 160, or 0.80 percent, to trade at Rs 19,840 per quintal with an open interest of 8,043 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in the current month moved down by Rs 50, or 0.25 percent, at Rs 19,600 per quintal in 120 lots.

Analysts said besides profit-booking by speculators at the existing levels, fall in demand at the spot market against adequate stocks position kept the pressure on jeera futures.
