JAGGERY: The wholesale gur (jaggery) market saw a firm trend during the week following low stocks amid speculative buying by stockist and retailers, noting remarkable gains up to Rs 200 per quintal.

A similar trend prevailed at the Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets where prices registered sharp gains up to Rs 400 per quintal on brisk demand amid thin supply.

Marketmen said apart from a tight stock position on negligible arrivals from mills, sturdy buying by stockist and retailers mainly brought a sharp upsurge in gur prices.

In Delhi, gur Chakku climbed by Rs 200 to end the week at Rs 3,500-3,600 per quintal.

Gur Pedi, Dhayya and Shakkar prices also shot up by Rs 100 each to finish the week at Rs 3,700-3,800, Rs 3,800-3,900 and Rs 3,900-4,000 per quintal respectively.

At Muzaffarnagar, gur Chakku spurted by Rs 400 to conclude the week at Rs 3,200-3,400 per quintal.

Prices of gur Raskat, however, ruled flat throughout the week at Rs 2,800-2,850 on sporadic demand from beer making industries.

Gur Khurpa and laddoo prices were not traded due to unavailability of stock.

Coming to Muradnagar, gur Pedi prices strengthened by Rs 100 to wind up the week at Rs 3,350-3,400 per quintal.

Meanwhile, gur dhayya prices remained untraded on the paucity of stocks.
