KLM and other airlines said on Friday they will mount a legal challenge against the Dutch government over its plan to cap the number of annual flights at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, calling the idea "incomprehensible".

"In addition to negatively impacting the Dutch economy, the capacity reduction would significantly reduce travel options and connectivity for consumers," KLM said in a statement.

The Dutch government has said it will cap annual flights at the airport at 460,000 from November 2023 in order to combat pollution.
