Elderly man dies after being hit by car in Haryana's Ambala

A 70-year-old man died after being knocked down by a car while crossing a road here, police said on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Amarnath, a resident of New Bamboo Colony, they said.

The accident occurred around 8 pm on Wednesday on the Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway, they said.

According to the police, Amarnath was on his way to a temple near Sabzi Mandi and was hit by a speeding car while crossing the road.

The accused fled from the spot after the accident, they said.

Amarnath, a retired government officer, suffered a head injury and the passersby took him to the Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors, they said.

A case under sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Ambala City police station, police said.
