2 Customs officials held in gold smuggling case in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram international airport.Official sources said based on specific information, sleuths from the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had effected the seizure of 4.8 kg gold compound from two passengers-- Anil Kumar and Suneer of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram, respectively-- who arrived at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport from Abudhabi on June 4. The gold in the compound was concealed in the waistband and wound around by these carrier passengers.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the customs officials--Airport Customs Inspector Aneesh K A and another Inspector Nithin—allegedly had a role in the gold smuggling through the airport, they said.

Officials said the investigation is on to find out if the customs officials had facilitated more smuggling through the airport.
