Mid-Journey Fire Engulfs Taj Express in Delhi

In a dramatic incident, three coaches of the Jhansi-bound Taj Express train caught fire in southeast Delhi's Sarita Vihar on Monday. Miraculously, no injuries were reported as passengers swiftly evacuated the affected coaches, according to officials.

The exact cause of the fire is currently unknown. The railway police have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the blaze. The train, which had departed from New Delhi Railway Station at 3 pm, caught fire between Okhla and Tughlakabad railway stations.

'We received a call at 4.24 pm about the fire in three coaches of the Taj Express train. Eight fire tenders were deployed, and the fire was extinguished by 5.43 pm,' said a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official.

The incident significantly damaged coaches D3 and D4, while D2 was partially affected. Passengers recounted hearing screams and having to pull the emergency chain to stop the moving train, enabling them to deboard to safety. Firefighters reached the site quickly to manage the situation.

Railway officials have tasked the police and forensic teams with uncovering the reason behind the fire. 'We have launched an investigation to determine the actual reason for the fire,' noted a senior police officer.
