Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday embarked on a five-day official visit to China aimed at strengthening bilateral ties further as the all-weather allies seek to upgrade cooperation under the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Sharif will be in China from June 4 to 8 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This marks the 72-year-old leader’s first visit to China since reclaiming the prime ministerial office. During his visit, Sharif will engage in high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other key officials to create a blueprint for future bilateral relations.

The Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, expressed optimism about the visit, expecting it to mark a milestone in China-Pakistan relations. Alongside political talks, the visit includes meetings with executives from leading Chinese companies and a keynote address at the China-Pakistan Business Forum in Shenzhen.

The landmark CPEC, a jewel in China's Belt and Road Initiative, has spurred significant economic activity in Pakistan. Sharif aims to further cooperation in various sectors including security, energy, and agriculture during his time in China.
