A 28-year-old man, suspected to be mentally unsound, was detained for vandalizing the Vande Bharat Express by throwing stones, causing damage to two windows, as the train neared Thrissur railway station early Friday morning, police reported.

The incident, which took place around 9:30 a.m. as the train was entering platform 2 in Thrissur, did not result in any passenger injuries, confirmed an officer from Thrissur Railway Police Station. The Vande Bharat Express was on its Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod route.

The suspect, who is not a local resident and has been seen boarding trains randomly in the area, was arrested and charged under various sections of the IPC and Indian Railway Act. He is currently being provided food and water and will undergo a medical examination before being produced in court, where authorities will request his admission to a mental health facility, the officer added.
