Macron Halts Controversial Electoral Reform in New Caledonia

France has suspended a planned electoral reform in New Caledonia following civil unrest. President Emmanuel Macron announced that the constitutional project concerning the electorate on the Indo-Pacific archipelago will be paused. This decision comes in response to recent disturbances caused by the impending reform.

France has suspended a planned electoral reform in its overseas territory of New Caledonia which triggered civil unrest on the Indo-Pacific archipelago last month, President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday.

"The constitutional project on the electorate in New Caledonia has been suspended," Macron told reporters.
