The Tripura government has announced plans to establish an integrated aqua park in the Unakoti district, aiming to enhance both tourism and the fisheries sector. According to an official statement on Wednesday, the Centre has approved Rs 42 crore of the total Rs 99.99 crore required for the project under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for the 2023-24 fiscal year.

State's Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das conducted a meeting with officials at Chandipur, where the park is set to be developed. The project will span 96.76 acres in the Satero Miyan Haur area of Kailashahar Sub-Division.

Unakoti District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma shared that the initial phase will cover around 50 acres taken on lease from approximately 100 villagers, providing each villager with Rs 3,000 annually per kani of land as lease money. The development will include pisciculture, tourist spots, boating facilities, a restaurant, a fish feeding factory, and a carp hatchery, alongside a recirculatory aquaculture system (RAS), fish processing unit, and a public aquarium. These efforts aim to promote the fisheries sector and attract tourists, fundamentally transforming the socio-economic condition of Chandipur and its surroundings.
