India Surpasses UK to Become World's Fifth Largest Economy

Union Minister JP Nadda announced that India has surpassed the UK to become the world's fifth largest economy and is on track to become the third largest. He highlighted the government's significant achievements in various sectors, including health, infrastructure, banking, and universal health coverage.

Union Minister JP Nadda revealed on Tuesday in the Rajya Sabha that India has surpassed the United Kingdom to become the fifth largest economy in the world, and is projected to soon secure the third position.

During the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, Nadda stated that the Indian economy has grown by 8.2% in 2023-24, making it the fastest-growing major economy this fiscal year.

Nadda, who also oversees the Health portfolio, emphasized India's significant contributions to the global economy, including a 15% share. He highlighted the government's initiatives in infrastructure, health, and social sectors, particularly the construction of 12 crore toilets and providing free rations to 80 crore people. GST reforms and record profits in the banking sector were also mentioned as hallmarks of 'badalata Bharat.'
