Vodafone Idea Seeks Government Waiver for Rs 24,747 Crore Spectrum Payment Guarantee

Debt-ridden telecom giant Vodafone Idea has reached out to the Department of Telecom (DoT) seeking a waiver on a financial bank guarantee worth Rs 24,747 crore, needed for spectrum payment due in September 2025, insiders revealed.

The beleaguered company, which must securitize the annual instalment one year before the due date, cited recent rule changes that eliminate the need for such guarantees for annual payments.

Vodafone Idea, with staggering outstanding dues of Rs 2,03,430 crore as of March 31, 2024, continues to explore various avenues of relief, including opting for moratoriums and offering equity in exchange for interest obligations.
