Governor Approves Rs 80000 Crore Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that Governor Ramesh Bais has given in-principle approval for the Rs 80000 crore Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project, slated to transform Vidarbha region by bringing 3.71 lakh hectares under irrigation.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday that Governor Ramesh Bais has granted in-principle approval for the Rs 80000 crore Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project.

Fadnavis mentioned that he met Governor Bais on July 9 to request an urgent approval for the project. The Governor has now granted the in-principle nod, which signifies a major step forward for the ambitious project.

The endeavor aims to link the Wainganga river, originating from Bhandara, with the Nalganga river in Buldhana through a 550-kilometer canal, thereby irrigating 3.71 lakh hectares of land across six districts in Vidarbha, drastically improving the region's agricultural prospects.
