Chinese e-commerce giants Taobao and JD.com witnessed a swift surge in T-shirt sales featuring images from a recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The images, including a striking capture by AP photographer Evan Vucci, were quickly monetized by Chinese retailers. Some shirts carried provocative slogans like 'Make America Great Again' and 'Shooting Makes Me Stronger.'

However, the products soon became difficult to find through direct searches, possibly due to China's stringent censorship laws and copyright issues. Nonetheless, savvy shoppers were still able to locate these items via hidden links or by searching Chinese nicknames for Trump. Customer service representatives confirmed that certain listings were removed for violating regulations.

Alibaba, the owner of Taobao, and JD.com have yet to comment on the matter. The incident underscores how quickly China’s competitive market can respond to global events, even controversial ones, to create instant consumer products.
