Dramatic Bus Accident in Northeast Spain Leaves Nine Injured

A dramatic bus accident at the mouth of a highway tunnel in northeast Spain left nine people injured, three critically, officials reported on Tuesday.

The bus, carrying 50-60 textile workers to a nearby factory, crashed on the C-32 highway about an hour north of Barcelona, according to emergency services and local officials.

The vehicle hit the sloped edge upon entering the tunnel, causing it to vault upward and come to rest diagonally across the entrance. Authorities are investigating the incident.

Emergency services for the Catalonia region confirmed that two critically injured individuals were airlifted to hospitals. Another critically injured person and six others with less severe injuries were transported by ambulance. 33 more received medical attention at a nearby pavilion.

The accident occurred near Pineda de Mar, a Mediterranean coastal town. Traffic authorities closed the highway for northbound vehicles.
