A widespread outage in Microsoft's cloud services has disrupted crucial sectors including flight operations, banking, and healthcare on a global scale. India, among other nations, has faced significant setbacks, with flight operations most severely impacted. Airlines have either canceled or rescheduled flights, causing inconvenience to millions of passengers.

Travelers took to social media to share their experiences, posting images of handwritten boarding passes issued amidst the disruption. According to Indigo Airlines, approximately 190 flights were canceled between 15:50 IST today and 05:20 IST on Saturday. Suvojit Mukherjee, a passenger at Deoghar Airport in Jharkhand, shared a photo of his manual ticket on X, remarking on the outage's significant impact on airport operations across India.

Another passenger, Rachit, posted about the situation at Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar. In response, Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu assured that his ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are taking manual measures to minimize disruptions, emphasizing the need for cooperation from passengers.

Following the outage, the central government confirmed its coordination with Microsoft and associated parties. The Reserve Bank of India reported minor disruptions in 10 banks and NBFCs, which were swiftly addressed. Hospitals across the country also experienced system impacts but managed to continue operations with alternative manual processes.

George Kurtz, President and CEO of CrowdStrike, affirmed that the issue resulting from a software update was not a security incident and has been isolated with a fix deployed. Sundareswar K of PwC India highlighted that enhanced technology alone isn't sufficient for business continuity, stressing the importance of a robust cybersecurity framework.
