This year’s budget, the first of the Narendra Modi 3.0 government, aims to include a long-term blueprint to position India as a developed nation by 2047. Alongside immediate requirements such as boosting consumption and investment, the budget is expected to lay out a roadmap for achieving higher national income levels comparable to developed nations.
According to Assocham President Sanjay Nayar, the government has the fiscal space to invest in capital expenditure. Still, recycling funds from monetisable operating assets could be a more effective strategy. Assocham Secretary General Deepak Sood highlighted the expectations for a significant boost in consumer demand, particularly among the middle class, through reforms-friendly policies and investment measures.
