Finance Minister Defends Budget Allocation Amid Opposition Criticism

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the criticism from the opposition regarding the budget allocations, asserting that the funds have been equitably distributed to all states. She highlighted the significant financial support for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, along with a historic aid package for all states under Prime Minister Modi's administration.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday refuted opposition allegations that the budget favored states governed by supportive parties. She argued that those with fewer than 230 alliance seats have no grounds to complain, as the Centre has funded all states.

Addressing the significant Rs 60,000 crore projects for Bihar and the commitment to seek multilateral aid for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, she emphasized that Rs 1.5 lakh crore has been pledged for all states in the budget.

Sitharaman, in a post-budget media briefing, hailed the government's accomplishment of reaching 240 seats and the historic nature of their governance under Prime Minister Modi.

Prime Minister Modi, in his third term, has introduced multiple growth initiatives, including interest-free loans totaling Rs 1.50 lakh crore to states for 50 years, surpassing Finance Commission recommendations.

Sitharaman assured that every state's proposals undergo scrutiny and due process for financial support.

When questioned about West Bengal's exclusion from the budget, Sitharaman urged critics to read the speech carefully, pointing to the Purvodaya scheme's inclusion of the state.

The FM outlined a comprehensive plan for the development of eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, aiming to transform the region into an economic powerhouse.
