Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced that the government will support the comprehensive development of Bihar's Vishnupad and Mahabodhi temple corridors, aiming to convert these sites into world-class pilgrim and tourist destinations.
The tourism sector's budget allocation stands at Rs 2,479.62 crore for 2024-25, marking a substantial increase from the previous Rs 1,692.10 crore. The Vishnupad temple, situated by the Falgu river in Gaya, is one of the oldest Hindu shrines, while the Mahabodhi temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in Bodh Gaya.
Sitharaman emphasized that positioning India as a global tourist destination will create jobs, stimulate investments, and unlock economic opportunities. The development plans draw inspiration from the successful Kashi Vishwanath temple corridor initiative and are expected to emulate similar success.
