Florentina Iusco's Paris Olympic Hopes Dashed by Doping Ban

Romanian long jumper Florentina Iusco will not compete in the Paris Olympics following a two-year ban imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after she tested positive for furosemide, a banned substance. The World Anti-Doping Agency's appeal led to the stricter penalty, overturning a previous reprimand.

Romanian long jumper Florentina Iusco's dreams of competing in the Paris Olympics have been shattered. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has imposed a two-year ban after she tested positive for furosemide, a prohibited substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) list.

Iusco tested positive in an out-of-competition doping control conducted in April last year. The National Anti-Doping Organisation of Romania initially sanctioned her with a reprimand and no period of ineligibility, citing no significant fault or negligence on her part.

However, following an appeal by WADA, CAS determined that Iusco had not met the required standard of care for 'no significant fault or negligence.' Consequently, a stricter penalty of a two-year ban was enforced, starting from February 1 this year.
