Canon has successfully wrapped up its "Women Who Empower" initiative with a memorable media event held on July 24 at the Radisson Blu Ikeja, Lagos. The program, in collaboration with Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR), aimed to empower women in the print and imaging sectors and featured a month-long training session culminating in an exhibition showcasing the participants' creativity.
The initiative, which aligns with Canon's corporate philosophy of 'Kyosei'—living and working together for the common good—offered three key modules: printing, photography, and content creation. Canon Ambassador Daniel Ehimen, a renowned Nigerian cinematographer and director, led the content creation curriculum, while Emmanuel Oyeleke, a Nigerian lifestyle photographer and Canon ambassador, conducted the photography and printing workshops.
Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, Founder and Chairperson of WISCAR, praised the partnership with Canon, noting its success in empowering women and providing a model for future collaborations. "This collaboration serves as a powerful blueprint for partnerships that break down barriers, drive meaningful change, and pave the way for a more inclusive future in the print and imaging industries," Oyagbola said. "The impact on the lives of women in Nigeria has been tangible, and we look forward to continuing this important work."
Somesh Adukia, Managing Director of Canon Central & North Africa, emphasized Canon's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. "Our core values guide us in creating an environment where everyone can thrive. Collaborating with WISCAR reinforces our dedication to shaping a more inclusive and innovative future in the imaging industry," Adukia stated.
The event concluded with a dynamic portfolio exhibition, where participants showcased their work, reflecting their new skills and creative talents. Joy Ngwolo and Obianuju Lilian Ikegbune received special recognition for their exceptional contributions. Ngwolo, a PR professional and photographer, highlighted the transformative impact of the program on her skills. Ikegbune, a Public Relations and Marketing Communications Strategist, expressed gratitude for the insights and networking opportunities provided by the initiative.
The program's training included an intensive content creation course led by Ehimen, focusing on videography fundamentals, storytelling, and camera mastery. Oyeleke's photography course covered core principles and practical exercises, while his printing workshop explored solutions for photography portfolios and studio setups.
Canon's "Women Who Empower" initiative marks a significant milestone in fostering gender diversity and inclusion in the print and imaging sectors. With plans for future collaborations, Canon continues to champion empowerment through innovation and creativity, reflecting its ongoing commitment to supporting women and communities across the Middle East and Africa.
