Bihar's Railway Overhaul: 55 Projects in Progress

As of April 1, 2024, 55 railway projects, including new lines, gauge conversions, and track doublings, are under various stages of construction in Bihar. These projects span a total length of 5,064 km and cost Rs 79,356 crore. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided these details in response to questions in Lok Sabha.

As of April 1, 2024, 55 railway projects encompassing new line constructions, gauge conversions, and track doublings are underway in Bihar, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Responding to questions from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Arun Bharti regarding the current status of these railway projects, Vaishnaw revealed the total length measures 5,064 km, with an estimated cost of Rs 79,356 crore. A segment of these projects, spanning 1,194 km, has already been commissioned with an expenditure of Rs 26,983 crore by March 2024.

Regarding project monitoring, Vaishnaw explained that railway projects are surveyed, sanctioned, and executed on a Zonal Railway basis rather than by state or constituency. Bihar's projects fall under the East Central Railway, Eastern Railway, North Eastern Railway, and Northeast Frontier Railway zones. The annual budget allocation for infrastructure and safety works in Bihar for 2023-24 was cited at Rs 8,505 crore.
