Tree Fall Derails Passenger Train in Chhattisgarh, Injuring Loco Pilot

An empty passenger train was derailed in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district early Friday morning after colliding with a fallen banyan tree on the tracks, officials reported. The loco pilot sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The accident happened between Bhanupratappur and Gudum villages while the empty DEMU passenger train was en route to Antagarh from Dallirajhara. Scheduled to depart for Raipur from Antagarh at 4.30 am, the train's front wheels derailed on impact with the tree, which had succumbed to continuous rains over the past few days.

Immediately notified, railway and security personnel attended the scene in the Naxal-affected region to clear the obstruction and rerail the locomotive. The operation was successfully concluded by 10 am.
