Early Tuesday morning, a tragic train derailment occurred involving the Howrah-Mumbai Mail near Barabamboo in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district, killing two and injuring 20. The accident happened at approximately 3.45 AM, casting a grim shadow over the region.
South Eastern Railway (SER) spokesperson Om Prakash Charan confirmed that the derailment included 18 coaches—16 passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car. An NDRF team is en route to assist with the ongoing rescue operations, and authorities have been providing medical aid to the injured passengers both on-site and at Chakradharpur for more comprehensive treatment.
The SER has since cancelled several express and passenger trains, including the Howrah-Titlagarh-Kantabanji Ispat Express and Howrah-Barbil Janshatabdi Express. For affected families, SER has opened multiple helpline numbers for assistance. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether the derailment is related to another goods train accident that occurred nearby.
