Early Tuesday morning, a tragic train derailment in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district claimed the lives of two passengers and left 22 others injured. The accident happened at 3:45 AM when 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed near Barabamboo station, according to railway officials.
South Eastern Railway spokesperson Om Prakash Charan reported another nearby derailment involving a goods train. The passenger train collided with a derailed wagon of the goods train, leading to the derailment. Quick response from state police, district administration, and the Central Reserve Police Force ensured timely rescue operations.
The railways have announced an ex-gratia payment to the victims' families and launched an inquiry into the incident. Officials are working to restore normal train services, although disruptions and cancellations are expected. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik have extended their condolences and support to the affected families.
