Traffic on high-speed trains was brought to a standstill on two lines from Paris to eastern France after a train collided with a tree that had fallen on the tracks during a thunderstorm, according to the French SNCF railways operator.

Travel disruptions are predicted to last until at least 1200 GMT on Wednesday, affecting routes between Paris and Lyon, and Paris and Dijon. The incident occurred around 0530 GMT.

This latest setback for SNCF will impact some 80,000 travelers. It comes just days after acts of vandalism targeted signal stations and cables on July 26, leading to significant travel disruptions ahead of the Paris Olympic Games.
