The Odisha government has begun procuring potatoes from Uttar Pradesh to mitigate dependency on West Bengal due to erratic supply issues.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister KC Patra confirmed the first consignment had arrived, with more expected to follow. The move aims to address the potato crisis and price surge in Odisha.
Patra also indicated plans to phase out procurement from West Bengal due to alleged extortion by local police and TMC goons at the border. The decision follows critical remarks in the assembly about the Odisha government's previous failures in ensuring adequate potato supply.
