In response to a series of serious and fatal accidents on the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) road, Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced new safety measures aimed at vehicle drivers. These measures include fixed speed limits to curb rash and negligent driving.
The speed limit for M1 category vehicles, which are motor vehicles used for passenger carriage with up to eight seats plus the driver, has been set at 120 kmph. Vehicles with nine or more seats, in addition to the driver's seat, are now restricted to a speed limit of 100 kmph.
Further, the speed limit for motorcycles and goods-carrying vehicles has been capped at 80 kmph. In addition, a nighttime ban on the use of two-wheelers from 10 pm to 5 am on all days has been enacted. These restrictions will come into effect starting from August 2, police said.
